THE ROOF MANIFEST
The Roof is an action, an object,
a place, a manifest -
that manifests itself each time anew.
The Roof is a poem, a metaphor,
a cloud, a sign, a ceremony.
It is a happening. Just like this, now.
The Roof is alive.
It moves. It dances. It travels.
It is small scale, local,
and continuously temporary.
Roof comes from Roofing: thinking, doing
and using a space together.
The Roof is moulded by those who - meet,
think, make, build, use, see, need,
care for.. it.
The Roof is a reflection of the people who
are under it.
The Roof calls for those who call for the
The roof is for who is ‘available’.
Who stops on his way to the grocerystore.
Who is curious to hear, and pass on, the
stories of others.
For who dares to not know.
The Roof is a place to meet and share
- food, opinions, sleep, the view, stories,
attention, play, perspectives, silence, the
day, the night, a fire, fear, longing, a party,
no thing, a dance, knowledge
- without social pressure.
A space for when you also don’t know yet.
Where a thousand can welcome the
The Roof allows you to be misplaced,
to not fit in.
The Roof wants to live by the values that
matter and drive us.
It makes you stop, wonder and daydream.
The Roof can be a school, a bath house,
an agora, a viewpoint, a fire, a safe zone,
a bed in the city, a parliament ..
- yet it always adds to it’s own being;
it does not sell, overrule,
or take sights.
It can never be fixed in one place
nor into one statement.
The Roof is multiple Roofs.
The Roof should never stop becoming.
It will never come to an end.
The Roof is indoor outdoor.
The Roof is in town. It is in a street. On a
no-man’s-land behind your supermarket.
The Roof is a re-publicization of space. It
can be found just outside your established
routines. Where each one can be a
builder, a thinker, an ideator, a creator.
The Roof is public and private.
It belongs to you and to the street.
The roof is nowhere in particular.
It is where you want it to be.
The Roof is where the heart is.
The Roof is born in Veem House.
The Roof is carried outside.
The Roof is now at Zoutkeetsplein.
